Front & Back Post Stitches

Front and back post stitches are worked around the the post of the stitch below instead of in the top of the stitch. These stitches are used to create texture in your work. Any stitch can be worked around the post I have included tutorials below for double crochet but the method is the same for all stitches worked around the post.

FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (UK FRONT POST TREBLE CROCHET)

A FPDC creates texture in your work by pushing the stitches out to the front. To complete a front post double crochet yarn over then insert your hook from front to back in the next stitch immediately put your hook through from back to front in the following stitch (you will see that you have the post of the stitch around the front of your hook) yarn over and pull a loop up through both the stitches you put your hook through you will now have 3 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through 2 to have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the last 2, you now have a front post double crochet, check out the QuickVid below

BACK POST DOUBLE CROCHET (UK BACK POST TREBLE CROCHET)

A BPDC creates texture in your work by pushing the stitches out to the back. To complete the stitch yarn over then insert your hook from back to front in the next stitch immediately put your hook through from front to back in the following stitch (you will see that you have the post of the stitch around the back of your hook) yarn over and pull a loop up through both the stitches you put your hook through you will now have 3 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through 2 to have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the last 2, you now have a front post double crochet, check out the QuickVid below

FRONT POST DOUBLE CROCHET (UK FRONT POST TREBLE CROCHET) worked under the v

This version of a FPDC creates less texture and more height than a standard FPDC and gives a nice effect of the previous row being pushed to the back of the work. To complete a front post double crochet yarn over then insert your hook from front to back under the v of the next stitch immediately put your hook through from back to front in the following stitch (you will see that you have the post of the stitch around the front of your hook) yarn over and pull a loop up through both the stitches you put your hook through you will now have 3 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through 2 to have 2 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through the last 2, you now have a front post double crochet, check out the QuickVid below
