Here is my own pattern for an oval basket with decorative top and optional strap. This works fantastically for holding your pegs or as with any basket 101 different uses with or without the strap 🙂

STITCHES AND PATTERN INFO
This pattern is written using US terms and worked in one piece from the bottom up
Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet
BLO = back loop only
Slst = slip stitch
2sc = 2 sc in same stitch/ increase
scX = sc in next X stitches
skx = skip x stitches
()x = repeat instruction in brackets x times
[x] = stitch total for row
In all above instructions X counts as any number eg 2dc, dc10, sk5.
MATERIALS
Any yarn could be used for this project but I’d advise for a decent size and stability chunky or thicker. In the photos above the red is Aldi macrame yarn with a 6.5mm hook, this worked up fantastically. The purple is made with Aldi chunky yarn and a 6mm hook which also worked very well. You’ll also need scissors and either a large darning needle or a smaller hook for weaving in your ends.

- 5/. Sc2, (2sc)2, sc12, (2sc)2, sc2, (2sc)2, sc12, (2sc)2 [44]
- 6/. Sc2, (2sc)3, sc14, (2sc)3, sc2, (2sc)3, sc14 (2sc)3 [56]
- 7/. BLO sc56 [56]
- 8-9/. Sc56 [56]
- 10-13/. Dc56 [56]
- 14/. Sk1, (dc ch2 dc sk2)14 slst to 1st dc [56]
- 15/. Ch2, (skch2 dc ch2 dc)13, skch2, dc, ch2, slst to top ch2 [56]
- 16/. Ch3, dc in next st, dc54, slst to top ch3 [56]
OPTIONAL STRAP
- 1/. Ch33, sk27, sc in 28th, turn to work along ch
- 2/. Sc33, sc in slst of last round, turn to work underside of ch
- 3/. Sc33, slst to 28th st of row16 fasten off
